Post Medieval mount dating to the 17th century for a leather item. The flat plate of the mount has a tri-lobed end with a narrowed waist underneath, the lobes each side being thin and curved out, one now bent forward at the tip. This waist then expands forming rounded shoulders before a constriction formed of indents coming in from both sides below which it expands again to a square plate with outwardly curved corners. Below the square is an incised line across the front then a wider collar with rounded ends and possibly a broken lower edge. On the back are two integral attachment spikes one towards the top and towards the lower end. Each spike is rectangular in section and narrows to a point which is bent 90 degres in towards the centre.
It measures 42.7mm long, 23.0mm wide, 1.8mm thick, 7.3mm including the rivets and weighs 7.04g.
While not directly paralleled in the usual sources it is similar to the wide range of geometric mounts with two integral pointed attachments illustrated in Read (2001:35-36) and dated to the 17th century.
