A complete but slightly damaged, Medieval C15-C16th, copper alloy, fair size pear-shaped crotal bell as worn probably by a C15th jester. The bell has a slightly elongated, spherical shape with a long, worn through and broken suspension loop once with a rounded terminal. It has a crude cross shaped sound 'slot' at the base and a small spherical baked clay pea which still rings. There is a matt, dark brown surface with some patches of pale green matt corrosion and one or two remnant spots of gilding around the loop and the slot. This bell is likely to date to 1400-1599. Ref. The bell is 41.07mm long, 28.89mm wide, 24.78mm thick, diameter 28.89mm and weighs 21.2g.
