Medieval annular brooch of pewter or lead-tin alloy and of 14th century date
The brooch is near-complete, missing the tip of the pin but is heavily-corroded (with a weight of 7.9g). The annular frame is circular (with an external diameter of 29.9mm - 30.2mm, an internal diameter of 18.5mm) and is rectangular sectioned (3.1mm - 3.8mm thick). The encrusted corrosion has masked the decoration although an outside border is evident, inside of which are repeating semi-circular or D-shaped arcs on one face. No decoration is evident on the reverse face. There is a constriction for the pin on the frame (5.2mm wide). The pin (with a surviving length of 22.5mm) remains in place and is able to rotate freely, the loop (with a depth of 6.6mm) is now damaged at the rear. The pin has a collar moulding at the top of the pin shaft. The shaft is circular-sectioned and gradually narrows towards the tip. The surface is encrusted with a pale to mid-grey corrosion.
