A large and complete iron rotary key of medieval date. The key has an oval bow and a shank that narrows above the bit, in the same fashion as examples illustrated in Egan and Pritchard (1998:118). The bit has three elements, a straight central bar flanked by two bars with symmetrical double clefts. The tip of the shank tapers to a rounded terminal. This key is in very good condition and is likely to have been dislodged from a primary context by ploughing; the similar examples in Egan and Pritchard are dated from c. AD 1270-1400.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
