A copper-alloy looped strap fitting, dating from the post-Medieval period.
The piece is distorted and incomplete, although the right-hand end appears to be intact. The object comprises a flat-sectioned plate, sub-rectangular in plan, with scalloped edges and the occasional larger cut-outs. Two loops extend downwards from the right- and left-hand ends of the plate, respectively. In addition to numerous stamped marks, there are three recessed panels, the central of which appears to contain the date '1(645)'. A rivet hole punctuates this panel; there is a second at the right-hand end and the remains of a third at the left-hand end.
Length: 65.8mm; width/height: 30.1mm; thickness: 1.7mm. Weight: 11.08g.
This piece is probably part of sword-belt mount, into which corresponding scabbard hooks would have been inserted. A similar mount is illustrated and described by Brian Read, who assigns a possible 16th century date (Read 2001: 39/Fig. 26, no. 373).
