A copper-alloy hooked strap mount, dating from the early post-Medieval period.
The attachment plate is of flat section and sub-rectangular in plan, having a scalloped top side and concave vertical sides. A pattern of vine scroll, moulded in lower relief, decorates the upper surface of this plate, interrupted only by a triangular arrangement of three iron-filled rivet holes. The integrally cast hook projects downwards at the base. This hook is of oval cross section, forward facing and tapers to a blunt point.
Height: 45.5mm; width: 20.9mm; depth: 13.9mm; thickness of plate: 2.5mm. Weight: 8.11g.
This mount is probably a sword-belt hook for the suspension of a scabbard. Similar pieces are illustrated and described by Brian Read, who suggests a 17th century date (Read 2001: 30/Fig. 25, cf. no. 358).
