A post medieval copper alloy strap fitting from a sword belt dating to c AD 1600-1700. The strap fitting comprises a convex plate with two rivets and a suspension loop at one end. Attached to the suspension loop is an attachment link with an open-work trefoil (on of the loops is incomplete). At the top of the plate, it a knop with a rivet hole. Beneath the knop is a raised rib and beneath that is a convex plate with two longitudinal bands. The plate narrows before flaring to a raised band with two vertical incisions. Beneath the plate is a hook which loops towards the back of the plate. Attached to the hook is an asymmetric trefoil. Two loops are placed together with one attaching to the hook. Between these to loops is a small knop and then flaring incised lines along either side of the loops which extend to form the third loop. The back of the strap fitting is undecorated and there is a concave depression at the back of the plate. The patina is light greenish brown.
