Early medieval copper alloy incomplete strap end, Length 30mm, width 17mm, thickness 6 at top and 4mm at body, weight 6.56g. The object is incomplete and represents about one half of a rectangular strap end. It has a flat rectanguar, raised section at one edge containing two circular rivets (lower edge in photo). Above this the object consists of a thinner rectangular plate with a raised edge, which has a series of circular holes (6 complete, 2 fragmentary), roughly aligned in two rows. In between these holes, and eminating from a central rib, are traces of raised curvi-linear decoration, terminating in scrolls, which represents foliage. The object is a good example of a 'Winchester' style strap end similar to those illustrated by Thomas in FRG datasheet 33, and is similar to example 24.
