Early medieval copper alloy strap end, length 41mm, width 10mm, thickness 4mm, weight 5.91gram. The object is almost complete and has a rectangular form and cross section, with slightly bowed long edges. It begins with an elongated, stylised animal head terminal. The face of which is three dimensional and rounded and above this the ears are depicted as rounded incised lines on the flat surface of the object. Above this is a rectangular panel, decorated with a geometric interlaced design, arranged in four triangular sections, part of which appears to retain niello inlay. Above this the object splits into two sheets to accomodate a strap and there is further decoration, containing a chevron incised motif sitting directly below the traces of two circular attachment loops, now forming the objects upper edge.
The object matches fig 1. no 5 in FRG data sheet 12.
