A Neolithic flint polished axehead. The axe is sub-oval in plan and pointed oval in section; both long edges taper to a point rather than having side facets. The cutting edge is smooth and complete apart from a small notch which has the appearence of recent damage caused by its presence within the plough-zone. The butt is slightly concace both in plan and in section, and is possible a break. The surface of the axe is smooth and highly polished. On both long sides there is evidence of at least one large flake having been removed. A bulb of percussion is seen along both flake scars. That on one side measures circa 44mm x 24mm, while the large (and perhaps multiple) flake scar on the other side measures circa 77mm x 31mm. The axe is mottled mid-brown to yellow in colour, frequent red coloured veins.
The axehead measures 145mm in length. At the cutting edge it is 80mm wide, while at the butt it is 49mm wide.
