A copper alloy double looped buckle of post-medieval date (1600-1700). The buckle frame is complete and is rectangular in plan with a central bar; in cross section it is D shaped. The pin is lost; originally it was probably formed from a sub-rectangular tapering length of copper alloy sheet attached to the central bar by the end being folded to form an irregular 'wrap around' loop. The frame is decorated with several lobes - at the mid point is a triangular projection that is recessed at the mid point to form a pin rest. At the centre of the buckle, above the axis bar are two sub-rectangular projections. Similar small D shaped rounded knops / projections are present on the corners of the frame. The reverse of the buckle is plain, flat, and undecorated. The buckle is a light mid grey green colour with a slightly abraded patina that covers all surfaces. Movement in the ploughsoil has resulted in the buckle becoming asymmetrical, and slightly bowed in profile. In places a light grey coloured applied surface is apparent indicating the frame was originally tinned. A direct parallel has not been found; similar examples to this buckle can be seen in Ross Whitehead's book 'Buckles 1250 - 1800', pages 83, example 522. Whitehead suggests that this frame dates from the post medieval period (1620-1680).

The buckle measures 35.3mm long, 23.8mm wide, is 2.4mm thick and weighs 6.1 grams
