A Medieval copper-alloy horse harness pendant with enamelled decoration.
Although corroded, the shield retains much of its enamel and the arms can be described as: Barry of seven Azure and [...] a label of three points Gules overall. The right-angled loop extends upwards from the centre of the shield's upper side.
Height: 23.1mm; width: 14.1mm; thickness: 2.5mm. Weight: 2.43g.
The majority of enamelled shield-shaped harness pendants date from the 13th and 14th centuries. The incomplete nature of the blazon makes it difficult to attribute this pendant to a particular family or individual; however, the label of three points, a mark of cadency, indicates that this is the shield of an eldest son.
