A incomplete medieval gold quarter noble, probably of Richard II (1377-99) with (likely) pellet in centre of reverse (North 1319). Mint: London. Ref: North 1991: 62.

The coin is in poor condition, with approximately a third missing (from the top of the obverse) and a further tear from the missing area across the centre of the coin. The coin is also slightly bent. These appear to be post-depositional effects.

It is possible that the coin belongs to the reign of Edward III (1327-77), Treaty Series (1363-9) from the mint at Calais (North 1245) with an annulet centre although this appears less likely.
