Middle Saxon to Late Saxon copper alloy Ansate brooch with moulded decoration comprising four pairs of addorsed D-shaped motifs (two on the bow and one on each terminal) and a median rib which expands in the spaces between the motifs into three lozenges. On the reverse there is a slightly distorted catchplate and a double pin lug with an iron spindle. Length 40.6mm. Width 10.2mm.

Weetch type XII.Aiii, Pommeroeul Type; Hübener 1972 Gruppe 10; Thörle 2001 Gruppe XII A 2. Very close to an example from Domburg (ibid. Taf. 56,11). Another brooch, larger but with similar decoration, was found in a context dated c.930/5 - c.975 at Coppergate, York (Mainman and Rogers 2000, 2571, fig. 1266, no. 10426). 9th or 10th century.
