A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2350BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is sub-leaf-shaped in plan and D-shaped section. The ventral surface is smooth with the bulb of percussion and striking remaining. The dorsal surface is irregular having had numerous flakes removed and has extensive abrupt, short, parallel retouch around the left edge of the distal portion.
The flint is a dark grey colour. The implement is 38.9mm long, 29.7mm wide, 8.5mm thick and weighs 8.9g.
Scrapers are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory and are generally less chronologically distinctive than other artefact types. They had many different functions as they were very useful tools and were employed, for example, for skinning animals, removing the fatty deposit from hinds and much more.
