The lower part of a Roman copper-alloy brooch of Hod Hill type, cAD43-75. The upper bow is expanded and has side projections and it has a pierced circular recess for a separate mount, now missing. Sally Worrell comments: This is a Hod Hill brooch of Mackreth Type 9. All have a disc in the middle with cross mouldings above and below. The hole in the disc should once have held a separately-made cup. A descendant of the Rosette brooch married to the basic form of the Hod Hill. The distribution covers Sussex, Dorset, Wilts, Essex, Norfolk, Herts, Worcs, Glos, Camb, Northants, Leics, Notts and Hants.
