An Early-Medieval penny of Aethelheard (793-805), Archbishop of Canterbury, third issue with Coenwulf as overlord (dating to 798-805). Obverse: EP within inner beaded circle, initial cross of five pellets. Reverse: M in beaded inner circle, initial cross of five pellets.

Notes:

There are five other Aethelheard/Coenwulf pennies on the PAS database - LEIC-C7F9E2 (Shackerstone, Leics), SUSS-1738A0 (Sutton, West Sussex), BUC-B0EF67 (Great Missenden, Bucks), DENO-4216F8 (Clipstone, Nottinghamshire) and IOW-D18A58 (Isle of Wight). There are 20 Aethelheard/Coenwulf pennies on the Early Medieval Coin Corpus, all from SE of a line from the Severn to the Humber. 14 of these are of type North 232, and of these 3 are from Hampshire. This example is the first from Hampshire recorded on the PAS database.
