Object type certainty: Certain

A flint side scraper of Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date (c. 2700 - 1600 BC). The scraper is struck off a tertiary flint and displays no cortex. It has a lenticular striking platform. The dorsal surface exhibits three parallel negative flake scars running from the proximal end and a series of large parallel semi-abrupt semi-invasive flake removal scars running down one mesal edge and along the distal end as part of the shaping process. One mesal edge exhibits almost continuous short scaled semi-abrupt retouch. The other mesal edge exhibits a patch of short scaled semi-abrupt retouch at the distal end. The ventral surface exhibits a large bulb of percussion which has been partially removed by two flake scars, most likely from post depositional damage. The flint is a semi-translucent mottled dark grey with large patches of coarse-grained off-white inclusions. Both surfaces exhibit traces of iron staining.

The scraper measures 48.89mm in length, 36.02mm in width, 4.67mm thick and weighs 54.63g.
