An incomplete copper alloy composite strap end, of Late Medieval dating (AD 1250 to AD 1450).
Both the front and forked spacer are present, the back plate is missing, presumed lost in antiquity. The front plate is sub rectangular, with tapering sides, that continue to a blunted terminal, with a rounded knop. The upper edge is endented (scalloped). Two circular rivet holes are present, one located at the top and one at the bottom. The copper alloy rivets have a diameter of 2.1 mm. The lower rivet extends through the front plate and through the forked spacer. The upper rivet would have originally gone through the front and back plates, now it only extends through the front plate. Behind the front plate is the forked spacer.
The strap end measures 26.3 mm in length, 13.3 mm wide and 2.6 mm thick. It weighs 2.8 g.
The strap end is a mid to dark green colour, with an uneven surface patina.
Several similar composite strap ends have been recorded on the PAS database, including: HESH-9FFD8C; IOW-BD9CE5 and YORYM-857717.
