An incomplete copper alloy spur terminal, of Medieval to Post dating (AD 1400 to AD 1700).
Around 25% of the spur is present, consisting of the terminal and a small part of the arm. The rest of the artefact is missing.
The arm is sub rectangular in shape, with a circular indentation present to the right of an old predepositional break. The terminal is separated from the main body of the arm by a vertical ridge and groove. The terminal is sub rectangular in shape, and oriented at a right angle to the arm. Three circular perforations (holes) are positioned on the terminal. The upper one is separated from the other two by a diagonal groove. The upper and lower perforations have an internal diameter of 5.3 mm and the middle one has an internal diameter of 4.1 mm. The reverse is flat and undecorated.
The spur fragment measures 37.8 mm in length, 27.6 mm wide and 4.0 mm thick. It weighs 7.8 g.
The spur fragment is a dark green colour with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail. A couple of similar spur terminals have been recorded on the PAS database, including: SF-912641; SF-1FA32E and NLM-BA0B4E.
