A Roman brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.d. a type common in the West Midlands (AD 80-120): The copper alloy brooch is incomplete. The wings are semi-cylindrical, and terminate with perforated wing caps. The wings are decorated with a ridge at each terminal. At the upper edge of the wings and bow head there is a large integral hook which holds the chord in place. The copper alloy axis bar is supported by the wing caps and has the spring coiled around it at least seven times, but some of the coils are incomplete. The pin is missing. The bowhead is hump-like in profile and is decorated with a central, vertical ridge which has fine transverse notches. The bow tapers gradually to a small, bulbous foot. On the reverse of the bow there is a trace of the catchplate only. The surface of the brooch has a shiny light grey, green patina. It measures 39.48mm long, 16.63mm wide across the wings and weighs 7.47g.

The brooch is a Polden Hill type. Bayley and Butcher (2004:160) comment that the distribution of Polden Hill brooches are concentrated in the West Midlands and suggest they date to AD 80 to 120.
