A complete but misshapen post-Medieval copper-alloy 'pitchfork' tongue from a buckle chape (c. 1720-c. 1790).
This tongue has two similar tapering prongs which emanate from a cylinder containing part of an iron spindle.
This tongue is green with patches of a shiny green patina.
Length: 35.6mm; width: 18.2mm; thickness at cylinder: 3.3mm. Weight: 3.80g.
A buckle with a similar tongue has been published and illustrated (Whitehead 2003: 105, ref: 669).
