An incomplete Post Medieval chafing dish handle 1500-1600 AD. The copper alloy chaffing dish handle is about 45% of the original handle. It is sub-rectangular with part of a square projection where the attachment fitting would have been. The outer face of the handle has a border of evenly spaced low-relief pellets as decoration. The other side is undecorated. The edges of the handle are slightly bevelled and file marks are visible on these surfaces. The handle remains has a dark grey patina. It measures 63.5mm long, 7.8mm wide and 4.8mm thick. It weighs 28.39 grams.

Chafing dishes were domestic utensils made of metal or earthenware for holding burning charcoal or other combustible material. This was then used to cook food or keep it hot at the table. The handle probably dates to the 16th century (Lewis, 1973).

A similar handle can be seen on the data base WAW-36EAC4.
