A complete copper alloy dagger chape of probable medieval date. The object has a bulbous rounded terminal from which an integral square sectioned shaft extends. The shaft is mostly hollow though the terminal appears to be filled with organic material as a result of its deposition. A raised circumferential collar is present around the open end of the shaft which is crushed out of shape with long cracks to three of the four corners.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The object is 32.1mm long, 17.5mm wide, 16.1mm thick and weighs 23.9g.
