Copper alloy medal fragment. One arm of a commemorative medal marking the 1838 Coronation of Queen Victoria (1837-1901). The medal was formed as a Greek or Maltese Cross and this arm has a concave lower edge,. An external rim confines motifs and legends, here comprising a crown imperial and the words CROWNED 1838. A pair of spurs on the top edge (one lost) may have attached the medal to a ribbon or other means of suspension. The reverse bears an indistinct legend over two lines: Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1838.
