Object type certainty: Certain

Copper alloy harness bell. Long conical bell of rolled sheet metal with a butted seam on the reverse and with three triangular points folded together at the broader curved end. Each of the slits between the three points ends in a curved cut-out, forming three sound holes. There are traces of a pair of horizontally incised lines at the mid point of the bell, and another pair towards its top. A small hammered and drilled suspension loop of D-shaped form is at the top, pierced from side to side and projecting at the front. The bell retains an internal 'pea' or clapper, of uncertain form and material. Height: 40.1mm, Diameter: 11.6mm, Thickness (at base): c.0.5mm, Weight: 4.44g.

A pair of similar bells, identically decorated, are shown by Griffiths (1986, fig. 20) on an elaborate set including two shield-shaped horse-harness pendants, but with no provenance cited. Similar bells on the PAS database, but without decoration, include KENT-1EABA5.
