Incomplete lead alloy (pewter) token medallet, time of Elizabeth I. One side depicts two crowned pillars flanking a shield of 3 fleurs, also crowned, the other a rampant lion within a garter and the legend [HONI SOIT MAL Y] PENS with the 'N's reversed. So-called 'Lyon' counter series of tokens that circulated widely in late 16th century England. Other examples on the PAS database include LON-CEAAF4, LON-E05090, WMID-5A5EFD, and SUSS-554387. Diamter 21mm, weight 1.82g, late 16th century.
