A complete copper alloy buckle of medieval date. The buckle is a single looped D-shape with a narrowed and offset strap bar and ornate outer edges. The outer edge is expanded with two lobed knops flanking transverse grooves the centre most acting as a rest for the pin.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The buckle is 28.3mm long, 22.1mm wide, 5mm thick and weighs 5.2g.
A similar example is illustrated in Whitehead (1996), p.22, no.86 and is dated to circa AD 1250 - 1400.
