An incomplete copper alloy bow and fantail brooch of Roman date (AD 43-150). The brooch has a central circular boss with a central, circular concave aspect and outer circular border. Below the boss the object splays out into a fan shaped foot with three horizontal steps below the boss and outer border which respects the fan shape. Centrally within the fantail is a recessed set of lozenge cells.
The reverse of the object is smooth with a projection running horizontally which is the retained portion of the catchplate.
The head, pin and majority of the catchplate are missing due to old breaks.
The metal is dark green in colour with areas of corrosion and a pitted patina.
