A complete gold-plated Post Medieval finger ring. The band is rectangular in cross-section and the outer surface is decorated with a repeating foliate design. The inner surface of the ring shows signs of wear, with areas of the inner copper alloy ring visible. The ring is narrow and has been bent slightly out of shape.
It measures 22.3 mm in diameter, 1.6 mm wide, 0.6 mm thick and weighs 0.75 g.
Notes:
This ring has since been assessed by the relevant specialist at the British Museum, Dr Judy Rudoe. In Dr Rudoe's opinion the object cannot be securely dated to pre-1715 and therefore it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
