Incomplete cast copper alloy double looped (spectacle) buckle of post-medieval date (1550-1650).

The frame of the buckle is sub-rectangular (rectangular with rounded corners) in plan with a central bar through which the pin (not present) would have fitted. Centrally positioned at either end of the frame are cast lozenge decorations. In the centre of the buckle, either side of the axis bar, are two semi-circular cast knops. These are decorated with cast linear ribs and seem to depict sea shells. The frame measures 47.8mm long, 26.2mm wide and is 3.2mm thick. It weighs 8.07 grams.

The buckle is of a light - mid green colour and has an even patina that covers all surfaces. Some of this patina has been chipped away in places. Similar examples to this buckle can be seen in Ross Whitehead's book 'Buckles 1250 - 1800', pages 60-72 specifically example 402 (page 65). Whitehead suggests that these buckles date from the post medieval period (1550 - 1650).
