Part of a lead-alloy pilgrim badge, dating from the Late Medieval to post-Medieval periods.
The remaining piece takes the form of a forward-facing male mask. Details on the inverted-pear-shaped face are relief moulded and of stylised form, with a single pellet for each eye and for the mouth, a long ridge for the nose and an unbroken perimeter line of pellets representing the hair and beard. A casting seam extends vertically down the otherwise flat reverse.
Height: 8.5mm; width: 7.3mm; thickness: 2.8mm. Weight: 0.45g.
A stylistically similar face can be seen on a badge of John Schorn, which was found in London (Spencer 2010: 194, fig. 208l); however, the attribution to Schorn is by no means certain.
