A copper alloy Medieval harness pendant set consisting of the pendant and the cross shaped suspension mount, dating from about AD 1200 - 1400. The pendant is figurative and is in the form of a lion rampant. It is finely moulded and decorated with wavy lines giving the paws, tail and mane texture. The pendant is still suspended from a cruciform mount. The upper and side arms terminate is a rounded area pierced by a rivet hole, surmounted by an oval knop. The lower arm is bent back on itself round a copper alloy axis bar, and slotted to allow the suspension loop on the pendant to form a hinge. A single copper alloy rivet with a domed head, and a circular and hollow copper alloy rove were found in situ, but they are now separate and it is not clear from which rivet hole they came. Both the mount and the pendant are extensively gilded. The pendant and suspension loop are 25mm long. The mount is 32mm long. The entire set is 52.3mm long, 35.4mm wide and 4.7mm thick. 8.5g.

SUSS-7E38E2 is similar and notes that other examples in the form of lions and eagles are shown in Ashley (2002) fig.25, nos.1-3.
