An incomplete Post-Medieval silver-gilt dress pin of c. AD 1500-1600 date.. The pin is in the form of a trefoil plate applied with three hemispherical bosses. The bosses are decorated with filigree decoration and knops. A hole in the centre of trefoil-shaped backplate suggest there was originally a separate flower-head element attatched to the front. Traces of gilding remain on both surfaces. The reverse of the dress hook is undecorated. There are a separate silver bar and hook soldered onto the reverse.
The hook is 16.9mm long, 13.7mm wide, 4.7mm thick and weighs 2.12 grams.
Complete examples can be seen in Gaimster, D., et al, 'Tudor Silver-Gilt Dress-Hooks', The Antiquaries Journal, 2002, Vol. 82, pp. 157-196, fig. 5, p. 163. On the reverse is soldered an incurved hook. For similar example see 2005 T142, HAMP-C1FA5 and 2013T53 KENT-69E9B3.
