Description
A length of thick gold wire, coiled. One end is possibly cut, the other broken.
Diameter 30mm x 29.5mm; thickness of wire 2.5mm; weight 13.47 grams.
Composition

Identification
The composition would allow an ancient date, but the form is undiagnostic and therefore it is not possible to assign the object to a particular chronological or cultural context.

Report for the Coroner on the Scientific Analysis of
a Coil from the Warcop Area, Cumbria
ITEM OF POTENTIAL TREASURE 2015 T295
(submitted via The Department of Portable Antiquities and Treasure)
Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the coil from the Warcop Area, Cumbria, indicated a surface composition of approximately 80-82% gold, 14-16 % silver, the rest being copper. The coil weighs 13.47 grams.
