SCRAPER (TOOL)

Unique ID: SUSS-0EB826

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A knapped flint Neolithic or Bronze Age end scraper, dating to c. 4000-1500 BC. The scraper has been manufactured on a secondary flake of dark greyish flint with light brownish inclusions, which retains c. 30% cortex on its dorsal surface. The scraper retains its sub-lenticular platform and bulb of percussion on its ventral face, as well as a small bulbar scar indicative of hard-hammer percussion. The scraper has been retouched at its distal end through the presence of abrupt, directly applied short and scalar removals, which has created a convex blunted edge well suited for scraping activities.

Measurements (mm);
Maximum length down percussion axis: 37.02
Maximum width: 36.28
Thickness at midpoint: 13.44
Platform length: 24.81
Weight (g): 22.75

Notes:

Flint scrapers are difficult to date due to their longevity of use in prehistory, although most examples probably date to the Neolithic or Bronze Age.
