A fragment of a copper alloy Roman (AD c.100-c.200) headstud brooch, missing its head, pin and the curl of the catchplate. Overall, the brooch measures 39.6mm long, 8.0mm wide and 10.9mm thick. It weighs 2.78g. The break is just above the stud. The stud is oval and has a raised cross in its centre. The reverse of the stud is concave. The rest of the bow and the foot taper in width from 8mm to 3.6mm and is roughly semi-circular in cross-section. The bow and foot are distinguished by a slight bend halfway along the fragment's length. They are decorated with a central longitudinal ridge of raised lozenges, formed from flanking lines of triangular indents, which may have contained enamel. The foot terminates with a series of transverse grooves and an expanded endcap. The catchplate projects from the centre of the reverse of the foot.
