A Post Medieval book clasp dating from AD 1525 - 1700. It is the hook piece of a hook and eye type fitting. It is a long rectangle of sheet metal tapering slightly towards the hook end which projects form the centre of the short edge and bends backwards. The tip of the hook is missing. The other end is flared and bifurcated with a rivet hole in each lobe. One copper alloy rivet survives. Another copper alloy rivet is positioned in the centre of the plate, about a quarter of the way from the hook end. The fron tof the plate is simply decorated with a groove all the way along the centre. The book fitting is 78mm long, 19.9mm wide and 1.7mm thick. 8.93g.
