A cast copper alloy fragment of a handle from a copper alloy vessel, probably a skillet or posnet of later medieval or early post medieval date (1350-1700). The fragment is broadly sub-rectangular in plan with two opposing edges that are broken, one of these edges would have originally formed a tapered handle. The other two opposing edges are curved and rounded. The handle is 'D' shaped in cross section and in profile. The upper face is decorated with a dot and circle motif. Butler, Green, and Payne (2009:p.5 item (c) suggest that the dot and circle are the most common motif to be found on posnet handles. The underside of the handle is slightly concave. The fragment is a mid - dark green colour with a well preserved polished surface patina. The break is old and also patinated. Butler, Green, and Payne (2009: 4 and 8-9) suggest that handles similar to this are dated to the later medieval or post medieval periods and are used on skillets and posnets.
The handle measures 31.3mm in length, has a width of 28.4mm, a maximum thickness of 7.9mm and it weighs 35.7 grams.
