A copper alloy Medieval single oval buckle frame with ornate outer edge, dating to AD 1250-1400. The pin is missing. The frame is small and circular in plan, with a short offset and narrowed strap bar. The outside edge has two prominent lobed knops extending from the frame which flank a narrowed section decorated on both faces with three transverse grooves. One of the knops is further decorated with grooves on one face.
The buckle frame is 22.6mm long from the axis bar to the outer edge, and 19.2mm wide (internal dimensions 12.6mm x 12.6mm). It is 4.0mm thick and weighs 3.09g.
A very similar buckle is illustrated in Whitehead (2003), p.22, no.88, which the author dates to c.1250-1400.
