An incomplete post-Medieval to Modern copper-alloy and silvered military button (1859-1921).
A button of the Isle of Wight Artillery and Infantry Volunteer Corps. The Carisbrooke Company.
The button is circular in plan, convex at the front and concave at the rear. At the front it has a raised design consisting of a medieval drum tower with I*W*V in serifed capitals below (Isle of Wight Volunteers). It has a six-pointed 'star' at each side of the letter W. At the rear there is a stub of the missing loop.
Diameter: 20.6mm; thickness: 2.8mm. Weight: 3.22g.
