Description: A complete gold post-medieval finger ring. It is D-shaped in cross section. The flat inner face is inscribed '+BE TRVE IN HART'. The outer surface is decorated with pairs of raised diagonal lines with incised zigzag motifs in the spaces between them.
Dimensions: Diameter: 19.88mm, Thickness: 3.86, Weight: 2.06g
Discussion: Several rings with the same inscription have been reported under the Treasure Act (2009 T372, 2009 T641, 2006 T427). A variant of this inscription is recorded by Joan Evans in the 1596 Harleian manuscript, and there are versions of it on two later 17th century rings in the collections of the British Museum (AF.1210 & 1961,1202.243). The decoration and style of lettering on this example is similar to that on 2006 T427, however, suggesting a 16th or early 17th century date.
