An incomplete copper alloy buckle plate, of Medieval dating (AD 1275 to AD 1400).
The buckle plate is sub rectangular in shape, with two rectangular projections at one side, and an incomplete rivet hole is present at the other side. A large rectangular pin slot has been cut between this two rectangular projections. The buckle plate has not been recessed for the frame. The front plate has two stamped semi circles on it as decoration, with a circular rivet hole located between them. This rivet hole extends only through the front plate. An incomplete circular rivet hole is present at the other end, creating a forked end. The reverse is undecorated.
It measures 22.1 mm in length, 14.3 mm wide and 4.4 mm thick. The rivet hole has a diameter of 2.2 mm. It weighs 3.4 g.
The buckle plate is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
