Rim and handle sherd of a Post-Medieval jar or jug. The rim is plain and the double-grooved oval-section handle rises to join it flush. The fabric is a very hard fired earthenware, pale lead-grey at the body but oxidised to pale pinkish-orange at the underside of the handle and where the upperside of the handle-rim join. Fine sand is abundant and angular black-iron grits c.2.0mm rare in the fabric. The jar interior is glazed in a thick, dark yellow-green glaze with occasional flecks of brown. The handle upper is glazed with a thick, glossy dark purple-brown glaze, green at the edges.
The fragment is 72.8mm long, 53.5mm wide, 16.3mm thick and weighs 86g.
