A Post Medieval copper-alloy probable coin weight of James I, dated to AD 1613. The object has been cut into a square outside of the square struck pattern. One face is decorated elaborately, whilst the other seems to be completely plain. The outer face is decorated with an elaborate dragon facing left; the date '1613' is divided in half with the dragon's legs and a further initial or lettered decoration is below the dragon and seems to be an intertwined 'WV' or similar. It measures 15.1mm long, 16.8mm wide 1.3mm thick and weighs 2.71 grams.
Unlike common coin weights of James I for gold angel coins, this dragon is depicted without St. George slaying it from above. No parallel was identified for this coin but the numerical decoration is assumed to be a date and the style of this object is in keeping with coin weights from the 17th century.
