A copper alloy seal matrix of Medieval date, c. AD 1300-1450. The object is circular and flat. In the centre is an engraved human face, probably a woman, with head-dress, oval eyes with arched eyebrows, a bulbous nose and a linear mouth. The neck is narrow and a rounded collar is visible. The face is surrounded with a star consisting of two interlocking double-grooved squares. A lis extends from each of the eight corners, interrupting the legend. The legend reads S'/MA/RI/LIE/CO/LE/MAN * (Seal of Marilia Coleman). The first name is a woman's name but is unusual, and may be a variant of Mariel. The legend is surrounded by an internal and an external beaded circle.
To the rear of the object is a circular suspension loop. The perforation has an internal diameter of 3.61mm. The object is in very good condition with a smooth dark green patina. File marks are visible on the rear of the object and on the sides of the suspension loop.
