White metal, possibly silver, earring. Pressed metal object made in two joined halves forming an oval hoop with its sides meeting at the stub of a drawn wire suspension loop, and with a wire spur passing between the sides retaining a teardrop shaped hollow bead with pellets equidistantly spaced along its edge. Like the frame in which it hangs, this comprises two identical halves. The main or outer hoop bears cabled decoration along its upper seam. The lower half bears a series of rectangular punch marks, each within a compartment defined by a border line. The inner part of the main hoop is indented or scalloped, while its outer edge is also indented between each compartment. A small tear appears on one side. This is probably an example of a 'hippy shop' gew-gaw, quite possibly imported, and of very recent date. It is probably significant that there is little trace of deterioration, nor has soil infiltrated the hollow body; this may have been very recently deposited. Suggested date: Modern, 1990-2010.
