A penannular ring with a thick mid section to the frame, tapering to pointed terminals that do not quite meet. Exterior width estimated from photo, 25mm.
Originally recorded as an ear-ring of unknown date, this artefact type is normally recorded as a late early-medieval finger-ring with parallels at the Viking-age town of Thetford (Rogerson and Dallas 1984, nos. 17-21). This example, however, is very thick, and although its interior diameter of c. 17mm would allow it to be worn on the finger, the identification is not certain.
See NARC-D24A5D for a version with a more conventional shape.
