Medieval cast copper alloy single looped buckle, complete with pin. It consists of a 'D'-shaped frame with a narrowed and recessed strap bar. The frame is oval in section. At the centre of the outer side of the loop projects to a knob, the knop is thicker than the rest of the frame and has a slight groove down the centre for a pin rest. The pin survives bent around the strap bar and is a brighter green than the frame, suggesting a different alloy. The pin is rectangular section, and tapers in width towards the end, a grove down the front suggests it was made of sheet with the edges hammered in. The bucklemeasures 17.5 mm in length, 15.9 mm in width, 2.3 mm in thickness and weighs 1.70 g.

Similar ones may be found in Egan (2007:88) e.g. no.497, which he categorises as Meols type 4 dating to the late 14th century.

Class: Meols type 4, Cassels Type 1.3D
