A copper-alloy Trumpet brooch dating to the second century AD. The head comprises an oval plate which is undecorated. There is a small lug at the apex of the head. On the reverse, there is a cylindrical casing which encloses the axis bar. A small portion of the hinged pin is intact. The axis bar extends to form a head-loop which is held in place with a collar. The headloop is extremely worn and distorted. The collar comprises a flat, rectangular strip of copper-alloy which has been bent around the head loop. The collar is decorated with two horizontal ribs. The bow is arched and D-sectioned in shape. Mid-bow is the characteristic acanthus leaf and disc moulding, flanked above and below by two ribs; the leg is long, triangular in section and ends in a large, cylindrical, foot knob. The base of the foot knob is decorated with a central, circular cell. The cell is empty. The catchplate is triangular and extends as far as the acanthus leaf moulding on the bow. The brooch measures 72mm in length. The head measures 22mm in width and the foot 7mm. It weighs 19.78g.
